Music
Beyond the border
On her debut album Beyond The Border, pianist and composer Brigitte Angerhausen is crossing a border. It is not just an imaginary, but a very real crossing: over a long period of time she helped many artists create their music, employing her expertise as an internationally renowned producer and award-winning recording engineer.
She has now embarked on her own personal journey, tearing down the wall between studio control room and the piano on the other side, exploring newfound territories by means of her own compositions.
Brigitte’s playing conveys playful ease and emotional depth. More than once, Beyond The Border takes us into different realities, to a world between the states of waking dreams and sleep.
Brigitte’s exceptional arrangements and strong melodic lines create intensely atmospheric tone colours, at times conjuring up all kinds of fantastic images.
The music’s inherent power becomes manifest through the saxophone of Frank Sackenheim, whose playing seems to defy all limits, while Anne Hartkamp’s clear voice adds depth and intensity.
The guitar playing of Markus Tiedemann allows the music to expand, thereby adding another dimension, while the cello’s haunting melodies, played by Gunther Tiedemann, evoke feelings of yearning and passion. The rhythmical foundation is defined by the intense dialogue between upright bass (André Nendza) and drums (Christoph Hillmann). This provides the basis for improvisation and the further development of Brigitte Angerhausen’s compositions.
